“But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.” Matthew 10:30
God knows you intimately.
Consider how many people you know well. It takes great time and attention to truly know a person. People are intricate creatures with layers of complexity. Knowing them takes time and attention. Because we are finite, fixed in one time and space, it is impossible to know many people very well. However, God is infinite and omnipresent. He is able to intimately know all of His children. It is difficult, and maybe even impossible, to comprehend that kind of capacity. For that reason, some have simplified their idea of God; they have decided that He is a far-off creature too busy with universal matters to be bothered by our small lives. This could not be further from the truth.
Psalms 139 expounds on the detailed understanding God has of you. He is aware of your daily movements, when you sit and when your rise. He discerns even your thoughts and knows what you will say before it comes from your mouth. God is personally acquainted with all of your ways. You are surrounded by Him.
You may marvel at a God who bestows such personal attention on His creation. You are right to be in awe of Him! You are treasured by the Creator of the universe, the one who crafted butterfly wings, who spoke into existence the brilliant stars, who fashioned the beating human heart. That same magnificent God is carefully attentive to you. In Psalms 8:4-6 David takes time to marvel, like you, at this unlikely devotion: “What is man that you are mindful of him and the son of man that you have visited him? You have made him a little lower than the angels and have crowned him with glory and honor.” You have been favored by the King of all creation.
Being known by God should bring us great comfort. Most people feel misunderstood by those around them. We harbor secrets from even those who are closest to us. Our deepest fears, desires, hopes, and dreams, we often conceal. It exposes us, which is uncomfortable. However, we are transparent in front of our Creator. He sees through the masks we wear for other people. Be seen. Be known by God, and be comforted by it.
Think about it.
Think about the knowledge you keep from others. Do you have hidden insecurities or failures that you strive to hide from those around you? Do you secretly regret something in your past or perhaps you have a hope for the future that would be embarrassing to mention. Your Creator knows them all, and He loves you.
Read about it.
The Bible is full of evidence that God knows you intimately. Read John 10:14-15, 1 Corinthians 8:3, Hebrews 4:13, Jeremiah 12:3, Psalms 139:16, Psalms 139:7-12, and Nahum 1:7.
Pray about it.
Dear Creator, I know full well of your greatness, and yet, you remain interested in me. This is a marvel. I thank you for knowing me and still loving me. You see easily through my façade, and I am eternally grateful for you. In Jesus name.
